Accessibility Statement
Black Men's Xchange National, Inc. ("BMX") is committed to ensuring that everyone can use this website. This page describes the accessibility steps we take, the standards we aim to meet, and how you can tell us if you run into a barrier.
Our commitment
We design and maintain bmxnational.org with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA in mind. We also test pages with keyboard navigation and screen-reader tools to catch practical barriers that automated checks alone can miss.
What works well
- Keyboard navigation: You can reach every interactive element — links, buttons, forms, menus, and the photo lightbox — using only the Tab key.
- Skip to content: A "Skip to main content" link appears as soon as you press Tab, letting you bypass the header menu and jump to the main page content.
- Focus indicators: Interactive elements show a visible focus outline so you can always tell where you are.
- Mobile menu: The full-screen menu can be opened and closed with the keyboard, and the Escape key closes it.
- Images: Meaningful photos and icons have descriptive alt text; decorative images are marked as such.
- Form labels: Every form field has a visible label and, where helpful, autocomplete hints and error messages that are announced by screen readers.
- Status messages: Form submission errors use an alert role so assistive technology announces them right away.
- Color contrast: Text and important UI elements use color combinations that meet WCAG AA contrast ratios on the dark palette used throughout the site.
- Headings and landmarks: Pages use semantic HTML headings, a single
mainlandmark, and navigation labels that help assistive technology map the page.
Known limitations
Some content we embed from other platforms may not be fully under our control. For example, embedded YouTube videos and Instagram previews use the player controls provided by those services. We choose the most accessible embed options available, but third-party players may not match every WCAG criterion.
If you find a page or feature that is hard to use with assistive technology, please let us know and we will do our best to improve it.
How to give feedback
We welcome accessibility feedback. Please email us at info@bmxnational.org with the subject line "Accessibility Feedback" and include:
- The page or feature you were using.
- The assistive technology or browser you were using, if relevant.
- A short description of what happened and what you expected.
We will acknowledge your message within a few business days and work with you to resolve the barrier.
